Lot 3045 Dobby Stripe Pullover Shirt 

This is a very old–fashioned striped pullover shirt from the end of the 19th century. There is no shoulder yoke and made with a single piece of fabric. The sewing specifications are all finished with lockstitching, and the straight sleeves are reminiscent of a time when clothing did not yet have the concept of ready–to–wear. Patterned work shirts at the time were expensive and you can see this in the detail of the dobby stripe, so the original was probably worn by someone like a railway workers providing services rather than miners or farmers.
